New Law: Minimum Age of 16 for Social Media Accounts

New Law: Minimum Age of 16 for Social Media Accounts

From 10 December 2025, new laws will take effect in Australia to protect young people online by restricting access to social media for those under the age of 16.

This important change reflects growing community concern about the impact of early social media use on children's mental health, wellbeing and development.

Research shows that social media can expose children to unrealistic comparisons, online pressure and harmful content long before they are emotionally ready to manage it. While regulation is a positive step forward, real safety begins at home. Families continue to play the most powerful role in helping children build confidence, resilience and awareness in the digital world.

These new regulations provide an opportunity to talk openly with your child about their online experiences and what these changes mean for them. It's also a chance to review family technology habits, reinforce healthy routines, and explore age-appropriate ways for young people to connect, learn and express themselves.

This Special Report explains what the new laws mean in practice and offers practical guidance to help families prepare for the upcoming changes.

Understanding the Risks of AI “Social Companions”

Understanding the Risks of AI “Social Companions”

As part of its ongoing commitment to student safety, The Rockhampton Grammar School is revisiting the topic of social companion or AI-companion chat apps.

What are AI companions?

“Social companions” or “AI companions” are chatbot services designed to simulate conversation and personal relationships. The eSafety Commissioner explains that these apps aim to create “human-like conversations” and may present themselves as friends, guides, emotional support or even romantic partners.

Why this matters for young people

There are several reasons AI companion apps can be risky for children and teens:

* Many apps are not designed for children, with minimal age verification.

* Young people may develop emotional bonds with chatbots, potentially reducing real-world social interaction or making them vulnerable to harmful advice.

* Some apps expose users to sexualised themes, discussions of self-harm, or other unsafe content without effective moderation.

* The number of available AI companions has rapidly increased, while safety regulation is still developing.

What the statistics show

National and international trends indicate widespread use of Social Companions:

* According to eSafety, there are now more than 100 AI companion apps available, and many young people are using them for extended periods.

* One popular service, Character.AI, recorded almost 160,000 monthly active users in Australia , across all age groups.

* International research shows that around 72% of children have used an AI companion app , with more than one-third describing the chatbot as feeling like “a friend.”

These figures suggest that Australian students are likely engaging with these technologies - often without fully understanding the risks.

How families can help

RGS encourages parents and carers to take simple steps to support safe digital habits:

* Talk regularly with children about the apps they use and why they use them.

* Check app ratings and safety features , as many AI companions lack robust protections.

* Encourage children to seek help if a conversation feels uncomfortable , confusing or upsetting.

* Promote real-world social connections and balanced technology use within the household.

* Seek information from trusted sources such as the eSafety Commissioner , which provides guidance for families, educators and young people.

Read more information about Social Companions here.

Primary News

Head of Primary - Mrs Kate Harris

Head of Primary - Mrs Kate Harris

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year.

It has been a year of learning and growth for our children, and this is only possible because of the strong partnership we share with our families. Your positivity, encouragement and trust in our school are genuinely appreciated.

As we move into the final weeks of term, we know it is a busy time for families. Thank you for helping your children finish the year well by maintaining routines, encouraging good behaviour and supporting our expectations right to the last day. These final days matter—they help children reflect, celebrate and feel a sense of completion.

As you enjoy this family time, we encourage you to talk positively with your children about their new class for 2026. Your confidence and calm reassurance have a powerful influence on how they feel. When children sense that the adults around them trust the process and believe they will thrive, they approach the new year with far greater optimism, confidence and readiness to learn.

The Christmas holiday period is a wonderful opportunity for families to slow down, reconnect and enjoy time together. These days provide a chance to play, talk, laugh and simply enjoy each other’s company without the usual rush of the school term.

Holidays are also a good reminder to find a healthy balance with screens. While technology certainly has its place, children benefit enormously from real-world play, imagination, conversation and unstructured time. These experiences help build resilience, social skills and happy family memories.

We hope this festive season brings rest, joy and wonderful family moments.

We look forward to welcoming you to Speech Day on Tuesday as we celebrate the achievements, effort and character of our students. Thank you once again for all that you do to support your child and our school.

Updates from the Deputy Head of Primary (Operations & Students)

As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding school year, we enter a season that invites us to pause, reconnect, and appreciate the traditions that give this time of year its warmth and meaning. With summer holidays ahead and Christmas just around the corner, families naturally settle into familiar routines that help children feel grounded and secure.

Children flourish when anchored by rituals and traditions. Whether it’s decorating the house, sharing meals with extended family, enjoying community events, or simply slowing down together, these moments offer comfort and a sense of belonging. Even the smallest traditions, reading a favourite story, a yearly outing, or a simple end-of-year family ritual can create memories that stay with children for life.

This period also offers valuable opportunities for reflection. Our students have grown in so many ways this year—academically, socially, emotionally, and in their capacity to adapt and persevere. Taking time as a family to look back on the year helps children recognise their strengths and celebrate the efforts that shaped their progress. These conversations not only build confidence but deepen connection.

Celebration, too, has an important place. Marking the end of the school year, acknowledging friendships, achievements, milestones, and moments of joy helps children appreciate the journey they have taken. Celebration reinforces that learning is not just about outcomes, but also about relationships, growth, and shared experiences.

As we move into the summer break, I hope the coming weeks bring your family rest, laughter, and meaningful time together. May these holidays offer the traditions that make your family unique, the reflection that supports your child’s growth, and the celebrations that bring joy to this special season.

Thank you sincerely for your support throughout this year, my first in this role, and for welcoming me so warmly into the school community. It has been a privilege to work alongside you and to be part of your children’s educational journeys. I wish you all a safe, happy, and restorative holiday break. I look forward to working with you all in 2026.

Updates from Head of Primary (Academics)

Celebrating a Year of Academic Success
As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding school year, it is important to pause and acknowledge the extraordinary academic growth demonstrated by our students. Across every year level, our learners have shown commitment, perseverance, and a genuine desire to excel. Their achievements reflect not only strong curriculum knowledge, but also the dispositions that matter most - curiosity, resilience, reflection, and a willingness to take on new challenges.

Whether working through complex problem-solving in mathematics, crafting structured and thoughtful writing, analysing texts in depth, or engaging in hands-on scientific inquiry, our students consistently approached learning with purpose. Their results this year speak to that dedication. We are incredibly proud of the progress each child has made, and it has been a privilege to witness their confidence grow alongside their capabilities.

Textbooks Coming Home
Over the coming week, your child will bring home their PR1ME Mathematics textbook along with various workbooks from across the year. This is a routine part of our end-of-year process.

You may notice that some pages have not been completed. This is completely normal. A large portion of daily learning in our classrooms happens through formative assessment, including modelled examples, student whiteboards, targeted small-group instruction, and responsive teaching that adapts to immediate learning needs. These practices give us far richer information about student understanding than simply working through a textbook from start to finish.

If you would like to use any of the remaining pages with your child over the holidays, you are very welcome to. However, please be assured that unused pages are not a reflection of missed learning. They reflect deliberate, evidence-based teaching that responds directly to what students need in the moment.

Thank You to Our Staff and Families
As the year draws to a close, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff and our wonderfully supportive families. The academic success of our students is the result of a genuine partnership, teachers providing high-quality instruction, and parents reinforcing strong learning habits at home.

Our classrooms thrive because of the collective effort of teachers, teacher aides, specialist staff, and families working together to support every learner. Thank you for your commitment, encouragement, and trust throughout the year. It is a privilege to work alongside you in helping our students achieve their very best.

Celebrating a Year of Growth in Learning Enrichment.

As we close the year, it’s worth taking a clear look at just how far our students have progressed. Their commitment, steady effort, and readiness to take on challenge have led to significant and measurable gains across the School.

MacqLit Collective Growth
This year’s fluency data is a standout highlight:

- Initial MacqLit fluency average: ~72 words per minute

- Final MacqLit fluency average: ~96 words per minute

- Overall gain: +24 WPM

- This represents a 33% improvement in reading fluency across the school. An outstanding result.

MiniLit Collective Growth
There are similar results in MiniLit (Years 1 and 2)

Initial collective word list fluency: 10.2

Final collective word list fluency: 29.2

This represents an increase of 186%! Which is amazing!

Acknowledging Our Students
To every student who engaged in MiniLit, MacqLit, daily reading, and fluency practice — well done. The growth is real, and you earned it.

Thanking Our Staff
This progress is the result of consistent, thoughtful work from all teachers and teacher aides in classrooms and in learning enrichment. Your impact has been significant:

The Most Important Holiday Recommendation: Read with an Adult
If there Is one thing you can do these holidays with your child, it is to listen to them read and mentor them to be better readers. This is highly backed by research.

Below is a link to a video that shows how adults at home can help emerging readers feel better about reading but also build their skills.

Mentoring Readers – Parent Video

This video explicitly models how to support a child while they read — showing parents exactly how to pause, prompt, encourage, and guide decoding in a calm, structured way. It aligns closely with the routines we use in school and is especially helpful for students who have been part of MacqLit, MiniLit or who need support to access texts appropriate for their age.

Extension Writing
Our extension-writing groups produced outstanding work this year, showing maturity, control and creative risk-taking. Highlights include:

Year 4 – demonstrating amazing cohesion within sentences and paragraphs

Year 5 – writing with empathy to persuade an audience

Year 6 - Creating transition podcasts for year 5 students

Students continually push themselves to improve in these sessions, their efforts should be commended.

Final Words
Thank you to our students for their hard-earned progress, and to every teacher and aide whose daily actions made that progress possible. Enjoy the break, keep reading, and return ready for another strong year of learning.

Parents of students who are intending for their children to trial for a Rockhampton District Sport in 2026, please be reminded that Permission Booklets need to be submitted two weeks prior to trial dates to allow time for Mrs Neven and Mrs Harris to sign, file and return your forms.

We can not guarantee the return of your form in time if you do not allow the two week turn around, due to the multiple events happening at once, as well as the usual school responsibilities. You are able to digitally send it in to [email protected] or hand in a hard copy.

To assist in this process, the booklet is always available to download from Parent Lounge and here is a copy for you to save. Each new sport requires a new form. You can, and are encouraged to, complete and submit the form early (even from now!) to be sure the forms are ready to go when the trials occur.  Please ensure you submit the 2025 version, with all pages of the booklet completed in full, otherwise we are unable to sign it. Once signed, we will file a copy and then hand back to your child. It is then the family’s responsibility to take the form with them to the trials. The trials calendar will be shared with families once it is released, but there are always many sports trialled in Term 1, so please prepare your forms early.

Historically, Netball, Basketball, AFL, Volleyball, Squash and Hockey trials are held in February and will need forms submitted earlier than the school term starts. Swimming – please submit via your club. Please note that Cross Country and Athletics are nominated by the school following our carnivals, so individuals are unable to nominate for those until invited.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Miranda Neven via email [email protected]

Year 12 – QCE, Subject and ATAR Results
Congratulations to the Year 12 cohort on completing their external assessment tasks! The positive chatter after each examination was wonderful to hear! Their Valedictory Dinner last Friday night was a fitting celebration of their journey at RGS.

All subject results including QCE attainment will be published in individual QCAA learning accounts at 9 am on Wednesday 17 December.

Students who are ATAR eligible need to remember their ATAR is obtained via the QTAC Portal (not via QCAA). The ATAR is due for release on Thursday 18 December.

If you have any concerns, please contact me via mobile on 0429 995 680 . I will also be on campus in my office from 10 am both days.

To the Year 12 cohort, I wish you the best for your post school journey and hope you look back on your time at The Rockhampton Grammar School fondly. Stay safe and enjoy your post school life/

Year 7-12, 2026 Timetable
The Studies Directorate is in the process of finalising the 2026 timetable. I am currently working with the four core Heads of Department and the relevant Head of Year to construct the 2026 Form and core classes. Students will receive a copy of their timetable in late January 2026 via Student Cafe. A reminder teacher and friend requests are not taken from parents given staff know students well and necessary sensitivities will have already been noted.

Year 7 and 9, 2026 NAPLAN
Several years ago, the federal government moved the NAPLAN testing window from May to March. This was enacted to ensure students identified as being below the national minimum standard (NMS) can have their specific learning needs addressed by schools earlier. The testing window in 2026 commences on 11 March. The School will publish a full NAPLAN schedule once all specific details have been released by ACARA and state Education ministers.

Speech Day
I look forward to the upcoming Primary School and Secondary School Speech Days on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 November. I hope all recipients can attend to be recognised for their achievement.

Head of Year 7 - Ms Aleisha Tuaine

As we reach the final school week of the year, I would like to take a moment to reflect and acknowledge what a significant year this has been for the Year 7s.

When I think back to the nervous group I met on the first day of the school year and compare them with the confident young people I see today, the growth is remarkable. There have certainly been moments of feeling overwhelmed, but there have also been many moments of joy and celebration. It has been a privilege to work with the Year 7 cohort.

Although assessments have now concluded, our community focus in Form and Tutorial lessons is continuing. Our collection for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal remains underway, with baskets in Form classrooms until the end of the week. Carols in the Frame was a wonderful evening, and I am very grateful to the many Year 8 students who came along to help run our stall. The event raised several hundred dollars for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal, in addition to the non-perishable items we have collected. Thank you to all families for supporting this important cause.

One of the highlights of my role this year has been witnessing the strong social connections within this group. I hope this positive dynamic continues as they progress into the upper year levels. To each of my Year 7s, congratulations on a successful year. I look forward to continuing this journey with you next year. Take the time to read through your reports and set goals for Year 8, but also make sure you enjoy the break, rest well, and spend time with family and friends. I wish you all a very safe and merry Christmas.

Head of Year 8 - Ms Michelle Rundle

what a significant year this has been for so many of us.

Whether academically, socially, in health, or in other areas, each of us has faced challenges - and we have faced them together. There have also been countless moments of joy and celebration, and as I look back, I am genuinely grateful to have shared these moments with you. Year 8, it has been a privilege walking alongside you this year, and now it is time for you to spread your wings as you step confidently into Year 9.

Although assessments are complete, our community focus in Form and Tutorial lessons continues. Our collection for the Women’s Shelter Christmas Appeal remains underway, with baskets in my office until we begin packaging donations for delivery later this week. Thank you to all families who have contributed so far - your generosity has been deeply appreciated.

One of the greatest highlights of my role this year has been seeing how eager this cohort is to get involved, support one another, and enjoy their time together. You have built a strong sense of connection, and I hope this spirit accompanies you into the upper years. To each of my Year 8s, I wish you every success as you move into Year 9. Take the time to read through your reports and set goals for the coming year, but also ensure you enjoy the break, rest, spend time with loved ones, and do something that fills your bucket.

I look forward to seeing you around the school next year and hearing about your many achievements. Wishing you all a very safe and merry Christmas!

It has been a busy few weeks for Year 9. Alongside a demanding schedule of assessments and exams, students have been finalising their studies across their subject areas.

Last week, students participated in an alternative programme from Wednesday to Friday, which introduced them to the Certificate I in Volunteering. This accreditation, available to students in Years 10–12, allows them to contribute to the community, broaden their understanding of their own skills, and demonstrate a willingness to go beyond simply attending school. This course also contributes two QCE points, which will later support the calculation of their QCE.

Term Four has been busy and exciting, with a number of key events having taken place or still to come. It was wonderful to see our Year 12 students receive their awards and to meet our new 2026 School Captains. It was valuable for our Year 9 students to witness this ceremony, as it helps establish traditions and inspires students to strive for excellence in the future.

We were also fortunate to hear from guest speaker Adair Donaldson, who spoke about the issues surrounding cyber safety and personal safety, both online and in the wider community. I am sure the students gained meaningful insights into this ever-changing landscape.

This week we look forward to Speech Day on Wednesday, 26 November. All Year 9 students are expected to attend in full formal uniform, whether or not they are award recipients. This is an important opportunity to recognise the achievements of students across the year.

During Year 9 Tutorial lessons this week and next, students have been briefed on changes to Australian social media laws and how these will affect students under the age of sixteen. Further information will be shared as it becomes available. There have already been some robust and thoughtful conversations about the topic in class. We have also been exploring the concept of happiness and its relevance to both individual wellbeing and community life.

I would like to take this moment to thank all Year 9 students and their families for allowing me the opportunity to support them this term. I wish everyone all the very best for the future. I am sure they will have a wonderful 2026 as they navigate Year 10.

As we near the end of another school year, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our Year 10 families for your ongoing support and encouragement throughout 2025.

It has been a privilege to work with this exceptional group of students, and I have thoroughly enjoyed witnessing their growth and achievements. While I will certainly miss seeing them as regularly next year, I am filled with pride and excitement as they step confidently into their senior phase of schooling.

Looking back on the year, it has been remarkable to see the personal development within this cohort. Our Year 10 students have consistently demonstrated leadership, resilience, and a maturity that will serve them well as they progress into Years 11 and 12. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to our parents and guardians for your communication, partnership, and thoughtful feedback. Your involvement has played a vital role in shaping the Year 10 programme and supporting the best outcomes for your children.

A standout achievement this year has been the completion of the Certificate I in Active Volunteering by the vast majority of students. This accomplishment reflects their hard work, commitment, and genuine spirit of service. I am incredibly proud of the many students who completed their volunteer hours with such enthusiasm, often going above and beyond expectations. A special thank you also goes to the Year 10 Form Teachers and to Ms Cindy Murray for their dedication and guidance; their support has been integral to the success of this initiative.

As we move into the festive season, I wish all our Year 10 families a safe, enjoyable, and well-deserved break. I hope the holidays bring rest, joy, and meaningful time with loved ones. I look forward to welcoming students back in 2026, refreshed and ready for the exciting opportunities ahead. I cannot wait to hear about their holiday adventures and new experiences.

As we approach the end of the school year, I want to express how proud I am of the growth and maturity our Year 11 students have demonstrated. It has been a privilege to work alongside them and witness their development in such a short period of time.

This year, our students have shown genuine enthusiasm for leadership and personal growth. Their participation in the YLead programme fostered deep engagement with themes of teamwork, influence, and self-awareness. Their commitment was evident in the number of students who have taken on leadership roles for the year ahead, including co-curricular captains, committee chairs, and House Captains. It has been inspiring to see their confidence flourish as they step into leadership within the school community.

Preparations for the Year 12 Formal in March are already well underway, with students attending dance lessons and organising fundraising initiatives to support what promises to be a wonderful event. At the same time, many are continuing to focus on their studies over the holiday period in preparation for their first internal assessment (IA1), demonstrating great commitment as they transition into their final year of schooling.

Equally impressive has been their dedication to preparing for academic success in Year 12. Students have approached this transition with maturity and purpose, carefully planning their pathways and setting clear goals for the year ahead. Their determination is a credit to both their character and the support they receive from home.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this remarkable group of young people and seeing how they support one another, both academically and personally. Their engagement, resilience, and spirit have made this year a truly rewarding one to be part of. I am delighted to share that I will be continuing as Head of Year 12 in 2026. I look forward to strengthening the relationships we have developed and working closely with students and staff to ensure a successful final year.

Thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year. It has been invaluable in helping our Year 11 students reach this important milestone and prepare to take their next big step. I wish you and your families a safe and restful holiday season.

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2025!

The last of the “lasts” took place over the previous week: the final external exams concluded with the Mathematical Methods paper on Friday, 14 November; students enjoyed their final day of school, including the memorable tradition of jumping into the pool; the final time they donned their RGS uniform; the final time the cohort stood together as students; and the final RGS events - Boarder Dinner & Mocktails and Valedictory. And finally, but by no means least, the last time they will call themselves Rockhampton Grammar students. These young people have now transitioned to Grammar Alumni and should be immensely proud of all they have achieved.

As the school year draws to a close, it is with pride, nostalgia, and excitement for the future that I reflect on the journey this Year 12 cohort has travelled. This year has been marked by impressive leadership, dedicated participation, and countless memorable moments. Students have stepped confidently into leadership positions, guiding their peers and the School with integrity and enthusiasm. From spirited participation in swimming, athletics, and cross-country carnivals to the special day spent at Ritamada, their commitment and sportsmanship have been outstanding.

Each student’s journey has been unique, yet the collective effort, academic dedication, and character development displayed throughout the year have showcased their strengths and future promise. The knowledge and skills they have gained will undoubtedly serve as a firm foundation for the years ahead.

As they look beyond the RGS gates, staff are excited by the range of pathways our students will pursue. Whether heading to university, entering the workforce, beginning a trade, taking a gap year, travelling, or celebrating at Schoolies, the possibilities are wide-ranging and full of potential. Their courage to embrace new opportunities and the wisdom they carry from their schooling will guide them well.

To our Year 12 students: as you step into the next chapter of your lives, hold onto the values, friendships, and experiences that have shaped you. Your journey is only beginning, and the future is bright with promise.

To their families: thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement throughout the years. Your partnership has been instrumental in guiding these young adults to this milestone.

I look forward to hearing about the paths our graduates take and wish each of them every success as they embark on adulthood. May their dreams be bold, their challenges surmountable, and their joys abundant.

Boarding News

From the Head of Boarding - Mr Mike Silcock

From the Head of Boarding - Mr Mike Silcock

It's been another busy fortnight in RGS Boarding!

Farewelling Our Year 12 Boarders
As the academic year draws to a close, the Boarding Community has taken time to honour and celebrate our Year 12 Boarders as they conclude their Boarding journey. Over the past fortnight, two significant occasions—the ‘Boarding Community Farewell to our Seniors’ and the ‘Year 12 Boarder Mocktail’—have provided meaningful opportunities for reflection, gratitude and celebration. These events captured not only the spirit of our graduating cohort, but also the warmth, unity and tradition that underpin our Boarding culture.

Boarding Community Farewell to Our Seniors
This year’s Boarding Community Farewell was a deeply memorable evening, beginning with a final Boarding dinner for the Year 12s held in the MAH. In keeping with tradition, the menu was selected entirely by the Boarders, giving the cohort the chance to share a meal that reflected their own tastes and memories from their time in Boarding.

Following dinner, the Year 12s made their way to the Space Frame, where they were greeted by the full Boarding Community. The rapturous applause that met them set the tone for an evening defined by respect, admiration and genuine affection.

The formal proceedings commenced with an address from the Director of Boarding, followed by heartfelt speeches from our outgoing Boarding Captains. Each year level representative from the Boarder Student Representative Council then offered a brief reflection on the impact the Year 12s had made. These reflections were sincere and often humorous, capturing the many ways our Seniors have led, guided and supported younger Boarders.

Heads of Year, Mr Mike Pittman and Mrs Ainslie Silcock, continued the tributes. Mr Pittman delivered his trademark humour, much to the delight of the boys, while Mrs Silcock moved many of the girls to tears as she shared stories from the past twelve months—memories of resilience, camaraderie and the quiet moments that define the boarding experience.

Each Year 12 Boarder was subsequently invited onto the stage to receive a small token of appreciation from the Boarding Community. As they were presented, a series of nostalgic photos appeared on the big screen—images from Year 7 or from their first days in Boarding—prompting smiles, laughter, and a few emotional moments among families and friends.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the 2026 Boarding Captains, Harriet Appleton and Lisiate Fa’Aoso. Their selection was met with widespread delight, and we congratulate them both on what promises to be a defining year of leadership.

The night concluded in true Boarding fashion. The Year 12 girls made their way to the Auditorium, where they spent time reminiscing through countless videos documenting their Boarding adventures over the years. Meanwhile, the boys remained in the Space Frame for a final, spirited round of down ball, accompanied by a relaxed sausage sizzle—an understated but fitting end to the evening.

Year 12 Boarder Mocktail Evening
The Year 12 Boarder Mocktail provided a second opportunity to honour the achievements of our senior Boarders, this time with their families present to share in the celebration.

The evening commenced at the Lady of the Lake, where families were invited to take a final photograph together. Our talented photographer, Ms Rachael McDonald, once again worked her magic, capturing the warmth and pride of this milestone moment. From there, the Seniors returned briefly to their dorms while a guard of honour—formed by our Year 6 to 11 Boarders—lined the path back to the Space Frame. This tradition created a powerful and emotional procession, symbolising the journey our seniors have walked and the legacy they leave behind.

Once gathered in the Space Frame, BPA President, Mrs Toni Frame, welcomed families before introducing guest speaker Mr Alistair Chapman, who delivered a poignant and heartfelt address. His words formally welcomed our Seniors into the ranks of RGS Boarding Alumni, acknowledging both their achievements and their enduring connection to the School.

This shared time in the Space Frame was deeply moving, as the entire Boarding Community—students, staff, and families—stood together to embrace and celebrate our Seniors. It was a moment that aptly reflected the unity and collective spirit of Boarding.

The Director of Boarding then invited everyone to the Islay Lee Deck, where the Mocktail event officially began. The gathering was elegant and joyful, providing families with the chance to reflect on the journey and celebrate the accomplishments of their children. A highlight of the evening was the address by 2026 Boarding Captain, Harriet Appleton, whose moving speech served as a testament to her leadership, maturity, and tremendous potential. The Director of Boarding also addressed the Year 12s and their families, reflecting on the cohort’s journey and the positive mark they leave on our community.

A Final Word
We congratulate our Year 12 Boarders on their achievements and thank them for the leadership, kindness and energy they have brought to our community. Their presence has enriched Boarding, and their legacy will continue to shape those who follow. As they prepare for life beyond school, they do so knowing they will always be part of our Boarding family.

We wish each of them every success in the exciting journey ahead.
